Every November, Family Centre celebrates the achievements made to protect and empower children across the globe. World Children’s Day (officially observed on November 20) is a global day of action for children, by children, marking the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The 2025 World Children’s Day theme is “My Day, My Rights.”
According to recent local research by Dr. Daniel Cavanagh, 1 in 5 of Bermuda’s adolescents reported diagnosable symptoms of depression and anxiety, with most of these students reporting symptoms interfering with their lives. Overall, the research showed that the rates of adolescents reporting depression and anxiety symptoms in Bermuda was 5-6% higher than global averages.
In their own words, 46% of Bermuda’s young people don’t seek help because they see cost as a barrier to accessing mental health services. This is why Family Centre exists: to ensure children and teens have access to mental health services – at no cost to their families – to help them thrive and develop into mentally healthy adults contributing to a healthier Bermuda.
This World Children’s Day, we celebrate children’s rights to access quality mental health care. We are proud to play a critical role in strengthening children and teens by facilitating healing, hope, and connection so that children can grow into their full potential – at home, at school, and in every aspect of their lives.
Family Centre is a Bermuda registered charity # 378 that provides free access to mental health counselling services to families with children ages 4-18 in Bermuda. We help with emotional, mental, and behavioural challenges, as well as the development of essential life skills that build resilience. We also offer inclusive, impactful youth enrichment community programmes: Youth Leadership Academy, Beyond Rugby Bermuda and Beyond Yoga Bermuda, which prepare young people for the future, fill basic needs, and aim to provide equal opportunities for our youth that otherwise may not be possible.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, schools, companies and individuals are encouraged to wear blue in observation of World Children’s Day and donate to support Family Centre’s programmes and services, so that they can continue to be freely available to children, teens and families in Bermuda who need them. Your investment in children and families will change lives and create a future filled with promise and possibility for those who need it most.
This World Children’s Day, thank you for helping us to ensure that children in Bermuda can always access mental health care without the barrier of cost. Donate today and make a difference in the lives of children and teens.
